“Nice to meet you, Mr. Spider!”
Spider-Noir continues to build momentum this week with “A Mistake I’ll Never Make Again,” an episode packed with emotional revelations, fractured relationships, and major developments that could have lasting consequences for several key characters.
The biggest spotlight falls on Cat Hardy (Li Jun Li), who finally reveals the painful truth behind her actions. During a heartfelt conversation with Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), Cat opens up about the man she loved before Flint Marko (Jack Huston). The two were engaged and planning a future before Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) had him killed, robbing Cat of the life she had always dreamed of.
This revelation helps explain why Cat has spent so much of the season caught between fear and defiance. While Silvermane has long held power over her life, she never stopped wanting something more. When she eventually fell in love with Marko, she saw a chance to finally achieve the happiness that had been taken from her. However, she also knew Silvermane would never allow that to happen.
As a result, Cat admits to having orchestrated the hit on Silvermane. It wasn’t simply about revenge. In her eyes, eliminating the crime boss was the only way she and Marko could ever have the life they deserved. It was a risky plan born from years of heartbreak, but one she felt was necessary if she ever wanted to experience true freedom.
Unfortunately, Marko overhears enough of the conversation to feel completely betrayed.
Rather than understanding Cat’s motivations, he focuses on the secrets she kept from him. Hurt and angry, Marko walks away and ultimately returns to the one person who is always willing to exploit his vulnerabilities: Silvermane.
The crime boss quickly puts his former enforcer back to work. With incumbent Mayor Morris (Michael Kostroff) pushing for an end to Prohibition, Silvermane sees a direct threat to his interests and responds in the only way he knows how. Using Marko as a show of force, he attempts to intimidate the mayor into backing away from his campaign. The scene serves as another reminder that Silvermane’s influence extends far beyond the criminal underworld and deep into New York’s political landscape.
Elsewhere, Robbie Robertson (Lamorne Morris) finds himself trying to correct a mistake made by The Daily Bugle. Following the paper’s false story linking Lonnie Lincoln (Abraham Popoola) and Marko to the police raid on the shantytown, Robbie feels compelled to make things right. Unlike others who are content to move on, he understands the damage the story caused and reaches out in hopes of rebuilding some of that trust.
Robbie’s efforts showcase a different side of the veteran reporter. Rather than chasing the next big headline, he’s focused on accountability and uncovering the truth. As he continues investigating, he uncovers additional clues connecting Lonnie, Marko, and several other individuals to mysterious wartime experiments, adding another intriguing layer to the season’s larger mystery.
The episode also gives Ben some strong character moments. His conversations with Cat reveal just how much loss both characters have endured, helping forge a deeper connection between them. Their shared experiences provide much of the episode’s emotional weight and help balance the larger conflicts unfolding throughout the city.
Just when it seems the episode is winding down, Spider-Noir delivers one final surprise. A new villain (Andrew Lewis Caldwell) armed with some seriously shocking powers emerges during an attempted bank robbery, forcing Ben to suit up as the Spider once more. While the mysterious criminal’s appearance is brief, it provides an exciting tease of what’s to come and sets up what could be a major confrontation in the near future.
The incident also creates an unexpected opportunity for Mayor Morris. Eager to rally the public, the mayor announces that he and the Spider are now united in a mission to rid New York of crime and corruption. Whether that partnership proves beneficial remains to be seen, but it certainly adds a fascinating new dynamic heading into the next episode.
By the time the credits roll, “A Mistake I’ll Never Make Again” has significantly reshaped the season’s landscape. Cat’s secrets are finally out in the open, Marko has returned to Silvermane’s side, Robbie is working to undo the damage caused by the Bugle’s reporting, and Ben finds himself facing both new allies and new threats.
Balancing character-driven drama with meaningful plot progression, this is another strong chapter for Spider-Noir—one that leaves plenty of questions hanging in the air as the story moves forward.
