Green Lantern figure

Beast Kingdom // $48.99

Inspired by the artwork of the great Alex Ross, Beast Kingdom’s all-new Green Lantern figure faithfully recreates DC’s Emerald Knight with stunning precision and attention to detail. The portrait is a standout, with sharp, confident features that capture Hal Jordan’s commanding presence, and the sculpting on the power ring adds a crisp touch of focus that fans are sure to appreciate. The metallic green suit emphasizes the muscular physique underneath, while the 18 points of articulation—coupled with the inclusion of eight interchangeable hands and a signature Lantern Battery—allow for multiple stances and display options. Granted, the larger 1/9 scale won’t be for everyone, but if you’re looking to add a truly heroic rendition of Hal Jordan to your shelf and aren’t tied down to a single range, this may be the figure for you!

Kyle Katarn figure

Hasbro // $27.99

A staple of Star Wars gaming for over 30 years, Kyle Katarn storms into the Black Series with photo-real facial tech and enough modern articulation to make his classic Kenner counterparts greener than a seasick Gundark. From his breakout role as a roguish Rebel hero to his Jedi journey under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker in the now-defunct Expanded Universe, this figure fits perfectly alongside other recent Gaming Greats like Dash Rendar and is sure to have you schlepping up to the attic to dig your old Dell Dimension out of storage before too long. With a blaster at his side and a blue-bladed lightsaber—complete with interchangeable effects pieces—at the hip, he’s geared up and ready for anything the galaxy throws his way. Fingers crossed Jan Ors isn’t too far behind! Hey, I can dream, can’t I?

Super Grover figure

NECA // $37.99

As a general rule of thumb, I tend not to highlight exclusive figures in columns like this due to their overall “nicheness”—not to mention how difficult they often are to obtain—but I’m making an exception for Super Grover! Released during Haul-O-Thon, this 1/12-scale take on Sesame Street’s most heroic monster may be a little light on accessories, but still delivers where it counts thanks to a fabric cape and bendy wire arms that do a fantastic job of selling the illusion that this is more puppet than plastic. There’s also a flight stand and some letter accessories for added playability, and while I’ll admit that some interchangeable hands or a swappable head would’ve been nice, this figure is bursting with so much comedic confidence that I’m more than willing to sweep those nitpicks under the rug. NECA’s Sesame Street line continues to be one of the most charismatic collections on the market today, and Super Grover cranks that charm up tenfold—here’s hoping it won’t be long before he swoops in for a mass retail release!

Gong Studios Batman figure

Gong Studio // $129.99

Jumping back over to DC for a moment, I want to talk about the new Hush Batman figure from Gong Studio. Since its release in 2002, there have been plenty of figures based on Bruce Wayne’s look in Loeb and Lee’s critically acclaimed story, but this latest rendition leaves them all in the bat-dust. Whether it’s the fabric costume, wired cape, swappable Bruce Wayne head, intricate detailing, wide range of articulation, or the sheer amount of love shown to one of the best Batman stories ever put to paper and ink, this is a Caped Crusader of a different color. It also makes me wish I’d bitten the bullet and jumped into the import scene much sooner. Gong Studio has delivered a truly impressive piece of plastic here, one that looks and feels exactly the way a premium figure should—albeit, with a ponderous price tag to match. I think it’s safe to say that my search for the perfect Hush Batman has finally come to an end. If you have the means and the shelf space, I can’t stress enough just how incredible this imported Caped Crusader is going to look in your Batcave!

wasp and ant-man figures

Hasbro // $57.99

Let me be perfectly blunt: it takes a lot to get me excited for a Marvel Legends release—especially in two-pack form. However, throw in a couple of Silver Age stalwarts and a smattering of cool accessories, and I’m all over it! Such is the case with the new Beyond Earth’s Mightiest set, spotlighting vintage versions of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. From the bright colors to the classic costumes evoking panels pulled straight from tattered copies of Tales to Astonish, this duo is a dynamic love letter to the Marvel books of yesteryear. The accessories are equally amusing, made up of everything from swappable parts to loads of science-y stuff that just feels right. I love the included lab coat and the miniature Quinjet, and that photo-real facial tech really pops—especially in the case of Janet’s Julie Adams–esque features. Bottom line, this classic coupling of Giant-Man and Wasp has me all a-twitter—which, I suppose, is an appropriate way to feel for a 60th anniversary, don’t you think?
