From Compatible to Scary: Ranking Love Island USA’s Week 1 Couples

Which couples are here for a good time, and which couples are here for a short time?

Summer's here and you know what that means: it's Love Island USA season! That means spending six nights a week glued to a screen, watching a dozen sexy singles look for love in a cartoonishly colorful villa. There will be lots of hook-ups, lots of spicy games, and lots of incredibly impractical bathing suits. Every week, Nicole Weaver of Black Bi Reality will break down what's going down in the villa by ranking the couples from compatible to scary.

The Islanders entered the villa with different romantic goals in mind. Belle-A Walker revealed she was looking for a husband and waited to kiss the men on the lips. Huda Mustafa said she was searching for the love of her life — but she didn't want to tell the guys she was a single mother immediately. The men ranged from wanting a girlfriend to wanting to find a connection.

The men had the power in July 8's Episode 6 for recoupling. The one woman who wasn't chosen went home. Nicolas (Nic) Vansteenberghe started the season with Belle-A, but his head turned when bombshell Cierra Orega entered the villa. He made his final decision and sent Belle-A home after his steamy photo booth kiss with Cierra. That leaves us with six couples and I ranked them from adorably compatible to scarily in danger of following Belle-A out the villa.

1. Hannah & Charlie

Hannah Fields entered the villa as a bombshell in Episode 5. Charlie Georgiou was also a bombshell and pulled Chelley Bissainthe for chats. However, it didn't go any further. Sparks flew immediately between Hannah and Charlie in the baseball challenge. She couldn't stop smiling and giggling as Charlie talked about his attraction to her at the ceremony. They're new, so they get the benefit of the doubt as one of the most compatible couples. We'll see if it lasts when new men enter the villa next week.

2. Olandria & Taylor

The Southern Olandria Carthen was excited to see cowboy Taylor Williams in the villa. Taylor makes funny faces and Olandria brings the zingers, which makes great television. They admit that they are building a friendship before romance, which is similar to last season's winners Serena Page and Kordell Beckham. "She gets me," Taylor explained before picking the social media coordinator. Olandria told host Ariana Madix that he feels like home. The biggest threat to their connection is if Olandria self-sabotages like she has in the past or they fail to find that spark. Hopefully, they make more romantic progress next week.

3. Amaya & Ace

Amaya Elizabeth gets the benefit of entering the villa in Episode 5. She flirted hard with Jeremiah Brown, Austin Shephard, and Ace Greene. Ace became single after Yulissa Escobar's exit and showed interest in Chelley Bissainthe. But he's been taking the backseat and Amaya's more outgoing flirting turned his head.

Ace said he loved Amaya's laugh multiple times and that she's assertive. If he's into women making moves, then this might be the relationship for him. But there is a chance this couple will fall apart due to his past with Chelley. They met before the season and didn't pursue their relationship because he lives in California and she's from Florida. Ace claimed their timing is never right before recoupling. Amaya is from New York City and distance might not bode well for them either. They'll have to put in the work to convince fans that they'll last.

4. Cierra & Nic

Nic was originally with Belle-A, but he lost interest with how slowly she wanted to take their relationship. Cierra entered the villa and didn't hold back physically. Nic also had better conversations with the influencer. However, episode 7's teaser shows Cierra is upset to find out their steamy photo booth session happened not long after he made out with Belle-A. Nic will have to talk his way out of this one. If he fails, this couple might not last through the new bombshells.

5. Chelley & Austin

Chelley and Austin have moved very slowly. Austin claimed Chelley has been patient with him and they could potentially work outside the villa at the ceremony. These are sweet words, but they fall flat after everything else we watched. They spend more time talking than kissing, and they don't have similar backgrounds like Taylor and Olandria. They have more chemistry with other people, but those options weren't available after Ace chose Amaya. It seems like the Islanders are buying their time to get someone new, which could put them in danger of leaving the villa in a vote.

6. Huda & Jeremiah

Jeremiah said he can see himself doing everything and anything in the world with Huda, but his fellow Islanders don't believe it. The couple has acted like they were closed off immediately to other people. Jeremiah went as far as joking about throwing himself off the balcony if she got up and kissed someone during the blindfold kiss challenge. Huda liked the jealousy and displayed more of it herself toward the new bombshells.

Huda clumsily told Jeremiah about her daughter in episode 4. He seemed shocked and couldn't look at her after the reveal. The model called this information a "bomb." He then talked about winning the season. "I'm not even thinking like that," Huda replied. They are staying together, but there is understandably distrust in their connection being genuine. The relationship started with a big secret and Jeremiah has his eyes on the $100,000 prize. Fans might vote to keep them, but only to see the drama. A lot would have to change for them to have a shot at winning.

Season 7 of the Peacock show will last six weeks. New bombshells will enter the villa each week to tempt the Islanders to stray away from their partners. There is also the Casa Amor twist half way in the season that separates the men and women to meet new people. Hannah and Charlie seem to have the most chemistry, but Huda and Jeremiah's intense situation could mean they're the next couple to blow up.

New episodes of Love Island Season 7 premiere Thursday to Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET on Peacock
