It’s Pop Heist’s First-Ever Heistoween Watch Party: ‘The Paul Lynde Halloween Special’!

"Hi, I'm Paul Lynde — well, somebody had to be!"

Paul Lynde in witch hat

All month long, Pop Heist has been offering you a feast of Halloween goodies under the "Heistoween" banner. Now, we're taking Heistoween live (virtually, anyway) with our first-ever Watch Party!

On October 29, at 9 p.m. Eastern, join the Pop Heist crew on Bluesky as we all sit down to watch an immortal classic of the Halloween season, 1976's The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. We'll all press play promptly at 9 p.m., and we'll be live-posting both from the official Pop Heist Bluesky account and from our own personal profiles as writers. It'll be a Halloween hoot! We'll be using the hashtag #Heistoween for the whole thing, so it'll be easy to follow along.

What's The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, you ask? Well, in 1976, on October 29 to be exact, ABC gave TV icon and Hollywood Squares legend Paul Lynde a Halloween special where he could basically do just about anything. What followed is one hour of anarchic camp joy, as Lynde brings on everyone from Margaret Hamilton (in costume as the Wicked Witch of the West no less) to H.R. Pufnstuf's Witchiepoo (Bille Hayes) to The Brady Bunch star Florence Henderson to KISS.

Yes, KISS the rock band, and yes, they do make time to perform "Beth."

If you've been a Pop Heist reader for a while, you know that this is exactly the kind of thing we love, a strange and delightful piece of pop culture that's become a cult classic through years of fans spreading the word. If it's your first time with The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, you're in for a wild ride. If it's your hundredth time...well, you know exactly why we want to keep watching this thing.

So join us on Blue Sky this October 29 at 9 p.m. Eastern for the first-ever Heistoween Watch Party, get to know the Pop Heist crew a little more, and ring in Halloween with an icon of the season.
